Originally from Cambridge and moved to Birmingham for University in 1993, I know live in South West Birmingham in my current refurbishment project.
I’ve worked in, ran or owned a number of companies in the promotions, marketing, leisure and licensed trade. One of these - Vodbull UK is the longest running student promotion company in the UK, coming into its 20th year.
Sept 1997 was my first house purchase – still owned today as a 5 bed (soon to be 6) student HMO.
Subsequent I built a modest portfolio of rental properties in both personal, Ltd company, partnership and SPV structures including other commercial / residential, HMO and HMO License and single lets.
I started property refurbishment in July 2003 and continue to enjoy this, having completed 60+ projects to date from small single let cosmetic refurbishments to overseeing a 14 bed Sui Generis pub conversion (budget circa £200k). I have been both a commercial tenant and commercial freeholder and refurbished a £250k spend commercial refurbishment.
Projects are from £100k "glam and lam" cosmetic refits to £1+M GDV projects. Recent additions to experience include major structural building works, renewable energy and RHI application.
The acceleration that doubled my portfolio and income was Mastermind 13 through a number of acquisitions and achieving the target, along with recognizing the true potential of specific JVs. I am exceptionally grateful to both the person that I was on my Mastermind journey with in part and also Simon Zutshi for his patience after my decade of deliberation following attending the very first pin meeting!
Following Mastermind, I am proud to be working with Dave Morris (MM13) and Gregg Reed (MM14) in New Leaf Living providing an end to end accommodation solution for a local housing association. New Leaf Living assists them in providing quality accommodation for supported living, in their case people who have previously been homeless.
Today’s activities include connecting people with money, deals, experience and knowledge as well as investing in SPVs that match my criteria. |
