Bio In May 2010 friends asked my husband Tony and I if we were seriously interested in a BTL property as they had had offers accepted on 13 new builds on a new local development but didn't want them all. We had spoken for a few years about BTL as a pension supplement but just hadn't 'got round to it'. Anyway we decided to take the plunge and in the next 4 months had taken control of 3 x 2 bed apartments; 2 bought on BTL mortgages and one acquired on a purchase option (we'd never heard of options before then!). At that point our own funds had dried up. I had been made redundant in 2009 from a well paid corporate finance job at HP and had used the proceeds to fund the deposits supplemented by equity released from our own house. In October 2010 I was offered a contract back at HP for 2 years on my terms! So I got back on the corporate tread mill and started saving again for another deposit. As I was working again full time, property took a back seat but my letting agent told me about a JV opportunity (he laughed when I told him I had money in an ISA which was going to give me 4.25% over 3 years). I handed over a chunk of cash as he promised to give me 2% a month! Tony was made redundant at the end of January 2012 but started a new job the following day. Rather than another BTL, we ended up using some of that cash to fund the deposit on our son Chris' house...mmm, not the original plan but it helped him and we felt good about being able to help him. I completed my HP contract at the end of October 2012 and spent a couple of months wondering what to do next. In February 2013, our friend who helped us get our first BTL rang and said he had a place on PIQS which he wasn't going to use and had been thinking about who he could give it to that would benefit the most from it...he said he thought that was me! I couldn't think of a good enough reason not to go so 2 days later I attended nervously on my own. I was blown away by what I heard so booked to do MMA at the end of February and at the end of an amazing 3 days signed up for MM13. And so the journey continues.
